copyright 2002 by the ARTS Consortium. ARTS is a project within the fifth framework programme of the European Union - competitive and sustainal growth.

At the heart of the ARTS project we find its Demonstration Programme. The Demonstration Programme refers to the design and the running of 8 demonstrations of rural transport systems across Europe. This activity tries to reflect the large body and variety of experiences in rural transport in Europe. The demonstrations include all the areas of interest: integration of services, use of new technologies, optimisation of services, etc. The proposed demonstrations are supported by a strong commitment from local or regional authorities, transport operators and other agencies. At the same time, the basis for selecting the demonstrations is their feasibility and potential transferability. The timing of the individual demonstrations vary depending on their nature and their requirements. In general, the demonstrations will last a minimum of six months to be able to monitor and evaluate them correctly. Some demonstrations started in summer 2002; others started in January 2003.
